🔗 Share this article The Battle Royale's Niche Traversal Techniques Become Widely Accessible This Season Respawn Entertainment has an exciting surprise in store for Apex Legends players, perfectly timed for festive season. Enthusiasts of this game's highly fluid traversal can rejoice to learn that an innovative traversal feature will be introduced when the Amped season goes live on Nov. 4. Introducing Mantle Boosting Dubbed "Momentum Boosting" by the developers, this ability gives players a surge of forward momentum when scaling obstacles. As explained lead battle royale designer the design lead, Mantle Boosting was previously existed of Apex Legends for quite a while, usually referred to as "ledge boosting." But it's no easy feat for casual gamers, and typically employed by competitive players in competitive play or tournaments. In this update, Respawn simplifies the process for players of all skill levels to execute these advanced speed-boosts. "This technique existed in the game for some time, but the movement isn't easy to pull off and gamers would never know it [is in the game] without outside knowledge," Canavese explains. "Now including a visual cue so users can clearly identify when and how to trigger the high-octane movement ability, opening up the feature and introducing new ways to compete for a much wider base." Why Opening Up Advanced Mechanics Why make a once niche movement quirk accessible to everyone? Principal designer the development lead explains the team wants gamers to feel powerful — even those who are inexperienced. "[The playerbase] performs other crazy stuff like super-gliding and tap-strafes, and we examined at other games, looked at what the community execute, and we wondered, 'What if we extend these capabilities to a broader audience?'" Mohan clarifies. "Since right now, some of these techniques are somewhat awkward to use — it requires to remap your keybinds and execute within precise timings. We proposed, 'How about we make a polished version?'" The Amped Update Movement Focus Movement is primarily the name of the game in this season, with characters the gravity mage, Rampart, and Valkyrie all getting buffs to maintain them in motion. The cooldown period on Horizon's Gravity Lift is shorter, and this skill will boost users upward much quicker than it used to. Her defensive walls feature a roof and capability to provide movement bonuses to allies in range. But the spotlight is on aerial Valkyrie who's getting significant improvements now, with multiple tweaks applied to make her stronger, quicker, and more lethal. "I think there's quite a consensus that Valkyrie's time is here," says character developer Ian Holstead. "There's no doubt she was top-tier in the past, but with the introduction of new Legends, mobility perks, and redeployment tools, it seemed like she's not very relevant in today's the game. This presented an ideal chance for the team to reexamine a bunch of aspects in her abilities and sort of bring her back to former prominence." Valkyrie's Upgrades To reclaim Valkyrie's relevance in current strategies, the developer says Respawn assessed each of her abilities and implemented significant changes. Her VTOL Jets received improvements, increasing velocity during flight, and this equipment now recharge three times faster, allowing the player to remain longer in the air. Now she won't take damage from her own Missile Swarm, which was enhanced to mark enemies who take damage from the missiles. Her squad redeploy ability — which lifts teammates skyward for repositioning or retreat — requires much less time to activate. Additionally, she gains recently added Legend Upgrades that players can choose to reduce fuel consumption, widen the area of her rockets, or further speed up her Skyward Dive activation. "Valkyrie's equipment fulfills that jet-fighter fantasy," Holstead says. Olympus Improvements Even the game's lone airborne map, Olympus, is getting a movement-friendly facelift, with an extensive redesign that expands choke points and makes securing elevated positions a bit less daunting. The developers state Apex Legends this update is all about providing gamers the tools required to keep up with the competition. "Essentially, we examined Apex's core identity as a fast-paced FPS," explains principal designer the lead. The battle royale the Amped season launches Nov. 4 at the specified times.
