Lando Norris just pipped fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. The British racer, who took the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs. Until that point, Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT. The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, lying 36 points behind behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup. His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, if briefly, when he lost control at corner four early in the session. The Japanese lost control over the exit kerbs before spinning across the gravel trap, and was fortunate to get away with just a slight brush of the barrier. The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the conclusion of the practice, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn before the last turn on to the start-finish straight. Hamilton ended the session in 19th place, just behind team-mate Charles Leclerc. The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber third fastest, over half a second off the Australian's time. The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
