A Marquee Acquisition for United Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side. Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month. Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised. Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight. Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals. She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals. Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum. Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals. In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business: The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023. Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.” The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
