US air traffic controllers are more and more looking for additional employment and reporting ill, as they remain on duty without pay during the federal closure, the transport chief has stated.

"The controllers are becoming strained," Sean Duffy informed a news outlet on the weekend, as certain aircraft were halted on the California shoreline due to personnel deficits.

Following the government shut down on October 1st, flight controllers, who are considered essential workers, were instructed to continue performing their duties without pay.

But a number have been missing, causing terminals to stop or slow their flight operations, which has exacerbated delays due to weather and other issues.

Over 3,000 American flights were postponed on the weekend, and the secretary stated he expects the circumstances to deteriorate further.

"I observe the pressure," Duffy said in an discussion on Sunday Morning Futures, noting that he had spoken to several controllers to hear their worries firsthand.

"They are pursuing second jobs, they're out there looking, 'Should I work for Uber, can I find another source of earnings to cover expenses?'" he continued.

Duffy further mentioned that on the previous day twenty-two notifications at airfields indicated flights would be delayed due to a shortage of workers - among the peak after the closure started.

The American federal closure reached its 26th day on Sunday, rendering it the second-longest halt in history.

Duffy has repeatedly warned that flight authorities would reduce the quantity of planes in the sky if there is a deficit of security staff.

In his interview, he declined to respond straightforwardly when asked if it was safe to fly in the US, and instead made a direct appeal to the professionals.

"I need my controllers focused on the airspace, not on the finances at home," the official said.

On Sunday, certain flights were stopped at LAX due to employee deficits, leading to disruption at the fifth-busiest airport in the country and one of the busiest in the world, as well as additional travel stretching upward to the city of Oakland, California.

The FAA alert was issued at 08:45 local time on the weekend. Many flights were operating normally by midday.

Flights at Newark Liberty International Airport, however, were delayed an average of 82 minutes due to personnel issues, and the authority indicated DFW, the second most active airport in the country, could encounter difficulties from reduced staff later in the day.

The FAA warned passengers in California to check with airlines about updated flight schedules.

The situation precedes the third match of the championship, which is due to be played in LA on Monday night, and approximately four weeks prior to the Thanksgiving holiday, one of the busiest times to fly in the US.

Strain on American aviation contributed to ending a government shutdown in 2019. At the time, the halt had entered its fifth week and disrupted airline operations, including aviator instruction.

It led several flight controllers to stay home on the identical date on January 25, 2019, briefly halting movement at LaGuardia Airport in New York.

That same day, the former president, who at the time was in his initial presidency as president, agreed to sign a short-term spending bill, bringing an end to the government shutdown after thirty-five days.
